Characteristics :

It has the bright yellow second dorsal fin, anal fins and tail. The anal fins will be longer with its higher age. Its top is dark metallic blue and its sides and belly are white to silver color.

 
Habitat : Yellow fin can be found in the tropical Pacific but mostly in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean (ETP), from Chile to southern California. Mature yellow fins will swim with dolphins at the daytime.
 
Harvest Areas : Yellow fin tunas are mainly caught form the Pacific Ocean; Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Indonesia. Some are caught from the Atlantic Ocean; Spain, Mexico and United States.
 
Confusing species : Yellow fin tuna that have a fork length less than 75cm can be difficult to distinguish from small big eye tuna.
 
Product Characteristics : In cooked form the Yellow fin meat tends to have a very light yellow/brown color. The structure of the meat is quite firm, and the taste is mild. If the fish gets larger then 10-15 kg the meat tends to become slightly darker and somewhat dryer. The large size of the Yellow fin make it well fit for solid pack in cans.
